Take one of the white onion halves and coarsely chop it. While the quick pickles sit, make the pork.Let sit at room temperature for one to three hours. Place the onion and pepper slices in a bowl or tupperware container and pour the vinegar mixture over top. In a small bowl, whisk ½ cup of apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 2 teaspoons of kosher salt with 1 cup of water.I wanna drool over your version of Nachos Al Pastor! Print Recipe When you whip yours up, don't forget to take a picture and tag #hostthetoast on Instagram or Twitter. Noooow back to the nachos, which are finally done the right way at this point! Serve 'em as is, or offer up some salsas on the side- I like to eat mine with salsa verde but I always put out some mild red salsa as well for the ones who don't care much for the green stuff, like the weirdos I live with. I save the extras for topping tacos, pulled pork, and burgers, too. Combine that all in a container with 1 cup of water and let it sit for at least an hour, and bam, you've got quick pickles for all of your nacho needs. All you need is a red onion, a couple of hot red finger peppers or jalapenos, apple cider vinegar, sugar, and salt. Oh yeah, the quick pickles- I almost forgot mention those. I like to top my nachos with quick pickled onions and spicy red pepper slices, avocado, sprouts, green onion, cilantro, and a drizzle of sour cream. But if you're anything like me and you want your nachos to be crazy-over-the-top tasty, then you're not quite done yet. Now, if you're not a perfectionist, feel free to eat the nachos just like that, and I promise that you won't be disappointed. I repeat until all of the layers are assembled, and then pop it into the oven briefly to melt the shredded cheese, warm everything back up, and get it all toasty on top. I place a third of the nachos at the bottom of a cast iron skillet, and top generously with pork, fresh pineapple, crumbled queso fresco, shredded pepper jack, and the cheddar cheese sauce. I like to put my nachos together in layers, so that there are no bare bites. Then, I melt the starched cheese in a pot with evaporated milk, which creates a smooth, velvety, creamy cheese sauce that is perfect for nachos. I toss cheddar cheese with cornstarch, which prevents the melted cheese from breaking or getting grainy. Once I have the pork covered, I move on to that queso I keep on mentioning. Don't worry, it's still crazy delicious, despite being not-so-traditional. However, I wanted to make this nacho version a bit simpler (and leave myself more time for makin' some queso), so I subbed in ancho chile powder and upped the amount of chipotle chiles instead. When I make the meat for tacos, as you can check out in this Tacos Al Pastor recipe, I rehydrate dried chiles for the marinade, which is well worth the effort if you can find them. But it is insanely good none-the-less, and anyone can make it. Is it the exact same as bonafide al pastor meat? No, I won't even pretend for a second that it is. Instead, I cheat and cut my pork into small chunks before marinating and searing it in my cast iron skillet. ![]() Unfortunately, I don't own a trompo, and odds are you don't either- but if you do, invite me over, PLEASE. Al pastor is typically shaved from the vertical rotisserie (which is called a trompo) and spooned into tortillas in heaps of tangy, spicy, smoky porky goodness. The Lebanese technique of spit-firing meat on a vertical rotisserie (as would be used in shawarma) was readily adopted in Mexico, but Mexicans used a marinade of dried chiles, pineapple, and spices on pork rather than typical Middle Eastern seasonings with chicken, beef, or lamb. Tacos al pastor are Central Mexican tacos which originated as a result of the influence of Lebanese immigrants. For those of you who haven't tried them yet, let me tell you what all the hype is about: Personally, tacos al pastor are my all-time favorite traditional taco. You've probably heard of tacos al pastor before, and if you're lucky (or dedicated enough), you've probably eaten them. Yeah, doing it right means Nachos Al Pastor, baby. The Right Way™ requires 3 types of cheese (for crumbling, shredding, and queso-ing), plenty of produce (from pineapple to sprouts to avocado), and most importantly, piles of spicy pork. But I do have to say that sometimes you have to splurge a little and do nachos the right way, and yes, there is a right way. I make no claim to the title of Nacho Elitist I'll eat 'em even if they're microwaved, smothered in fake cheese, and soggy-bottomed- they are nachos, after all.

When you open your leggings drawer tomorrow and see only favorites neatly stacked, go ahead and gloat. Make a donation bag and put it right in the car, so it won’t sit in your bedroom indefinitely. Instead of opening your leggings drawer and shoving C-list pairs to the side while digging for one of your favorites, take just five minutes to weed out the ones you dread wearing. Yes, this sounds like a total drag, but it’s actually weirdly satisfying. What’s more effective is to make decluttering something we do daily. Many of us tend to do a few massive decluttering projects each year-and feel like a massive failure when the stuff piles back up within a month. Why stop at putting things back throughout the day? You can also squeeze in more organizing than you think just by focusing on mini jobs. Come the weekend, you won’t have heaps of clutter to contend with (or at least not as many). When you go back downstairs, grab that pile of dishtowels from the laundry room, fold them, and put the stack in the drawer by the sink. If you’re on your way upstairs to brush your teeth, grab that sweatshirt you left on the living room sofa and return it to your bedroom. In other words, just make relocating items back to their assigned homes part of your daily routine as you move through the house. One everyday decluttering hack recommended by professional organizers is to always grab a misplaced item (or three) before leaving a room. Little habits, not crazy-ambitious cleaning days, are what ultimately keep a home clutter-free. “It sounds so simple but it really works!” Never leave a room empty-handed. “When every item in your home has a home, it’s much easier and quicker to put things away,” says professional organizer Jordan Marks of It’s Organized. Professional organizers often recommend going so far as to label bins, drawers, and shelves, at least until you and your family members get into a groove with the new system. But if there’s a recycling bin and a bills basket in the mudroom, you’ll catch all that paper clutter before it proliferates. If you’re wishy-washy about where mail lands when it enters the house, it’ll continue to live all over your countertops and other surfaces. That means giving items a convenient and consistent spot to “live”-the more obvious, the better. Home organization, ultimately, needs to be about making it super easy to put things away. One key to living clutter-free: Everything in your home needs a home. If you’re ready to make 2023 the year you can whip open an under-sink cabinet without dread and stop rebuying baking supplies that are already buried in your pantry, here are the decluttering tips and strategies that pros say are the actual game changers. That won’t change unless we get more strategic and realistic about clutter-and understand why it keeps coming back and what really needs to change to break the cycle. It’s that life, and a world of too much stuff, just has a way of getting ahead of us. It’s not that we don’t try or don’t care. Season after season, year after year, we tackle depressingly familiar decluttering projects with fresh energy, only to see our newly edited and perfected drawers, closets, and cabinets gradually (or rapidly) unravel. We all know the end of this tale, and it’s not that you and your clutter-free closet lived happily ever after. Fresh off a good declutter, you’re feeling accomplished, empowered, filled with steely resolve-never again will you let your closet get so out of control. ![]() There are no heaps of clothing to step over. The ocean surface itself is also incredibly realistic and straightforward to set up. These features really add depth to a scene and make the experience much more immersive and believable. While underwater you’ll find both god rays and caustics that are easy to set up and beautifully realistic. This is perfect for video games that make use of scenes both above and below water. One of Oceanography’s biggest strengths is that it isn’t just limited to the ocean surface, but users can actually go underwater. The results that can be achieved are stunning and to think that it’s all in real-time makes it even more impressive. There really is little to be negative about with this plugin. There is a Riverology plugin by the same developer that is also well worth a look, but in this review we’ll focus on their ocean offering. If you want an Unreal Engine 5 plugin to create stunning oceans then look no further than Oceanology. I’m a big fan of everything being contained inside one application rather than relying on add-ons, but plugins do have the advantage of speeding up the overall development of the product. Over time, it has integrated functionality that was once a plugin into their core engine. ![]() Unreal Engine 5 is already an incredibly powerful application but with a range of plugins its functionality becomes even more extensive. This is a game that prefers to have you follow through its story at a decent pace instead of throwing up roadblocks just for the sake of padding out the runtime. It falls shy of being too difficult as to become frustrating, but some puzzles will require some consultation with the old grey matter. You don’t die, per se, but you will come across moments where it takes a little more ingenuity to continue. Though relatively short, this combination of interaction and general movement works well, with a small amount of awkwardness when the puzzles become more elaborate later in the game. You’ll be pulling, lifting and interacting with everything you come across in order to guide the nameless boy through each nightmare scenario, initially to chase down his lost football, then later other objects that bring a smile to his face in this horrifying dreamscape. But there’s one distinct difference, as the game allows you to interact with its eerie cast of characters more like a point-and-click adventure than a traditional platformer, not unlike Amanita’s previous work ( Machinarium and Botanicula, among others). Happy Game follows a similar formula to some more famous cousins, namely Little Nightmares and Inside, as you guide your little hero through dark and sometimes terrifying scenes along a small handful of side-scrolling levels. Despite a little awkwardness along the way, it succeeds in its attempts rather well. ![]() Look at him! He’s so happy! Which is exactly what Happy Game does best, presenting the absurd nightmares of a child who chases after his favourite things to find happiness across jarring, dark and deadly imagery. Sure, it’s clearly not a ‘happy’ game given the obviously weird and violent looking designs, but just look at the little boy’s smile. This is not one of those forgiving games that allow players to effectively disregard the rest of the team as they live out their Rambo fantasy no, teamwork is necessary for survival.I’ll be honest, when I was first shown Happy Game, the latest from Czech Republic studio Amanita Design, I wasn’t sure what to think. Straightforward as this core concept is, Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop manages to incorporate quite a bit of nuance through its classes and tactics-driven gameplay. Naturally, the gameplay loop boils down to players going up against wave after wave of enemies while they try to work toward a level's endpoint. 8 players can take on one of the game's 10+ campaigns, each consisting of a couple of missions. While not lacking a PvP, Reactive Drop is primarily about co-op. Secondly and more importantly, the expansion does exactly what it advertises: improve the base experience. For one, Reactive Drop is still being updated despite coming out in 2017, which cannot be said for Alien Swarm. In fact, anyone seeking a twin-stick co-op shooter can certainly do worse than this title however, they should consider jumping into Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop instead of the original game. Co-op also makes grinding more manageable compared to solo runs.Īlien Swarm might just be Valve's most forgotten game, although the 2010 release is by no means bad. Four friends can have an absolute blast playing through most of the game's content together, an endeavor that should keep them busy for a couple of months. As such, it is very easy to get through these operations without having to interact with other people.Įven though the above is common when teaming up with strangers, Warframe is still supportive of multiplayer and online co-op. Once someone is of a high enough level, they will steamroll through most encounters, to the point there is not much incentive to engage in teamwork. Most missions can be taken on as part of a squad, and many people tend to just do their own thing rather than coordinate as a unit. ![]() Warframe can be treated as a single-player experience for the most part, and this sort of extends to the multiplayer component as well. Despite hitting a few speedbumps along the way since not every change or update was for the better, Digital Extremes deserves praise for what it has achieved over the last decade. Celebrating its 10-year anniversary in March 2023, Warframe has expanded a great deal over its lifespan, a process that saw an exciting but limited third-person shooter grow into one of the most ambitious and best free-to-play games on the market. ![]() They also include a new train motor, essencially a Powered Up version of the Power Functions train motor.Īnd they also include a standalone controller, a basic BLE replacement of the Power Functions IR Command. They basically want to make people starve to death by erasing food completely, which makes for a far more compelling, palpable, and serious threat than just making people lazy. DeliPre addressed this in that its villains basically want to either steal food, make it taste bad, or make it disappear completely, which is shown to have very serious implications and consequences, especially if you think about it on a grander scale. All it really resulted in doing was making people lazy, and as a result, the battles were about as boring as eating lunch, and there was literally no real conflict save for the very end. In Tropical Rouge, the main narrative was that the villains stole people's energy and motivation and gave it to their leader, and the way it was presented there gave the series no real sense of tension.
